The Metropolitan Opera’s Peabody and Emmy award-winning “The Met: Live in HD” series continues its fifth season, featuring 12 live transmissions to theaters worldwide, Saturday, Dec. 11 with Giuseppe Verdi’s “Don Carlo.” The opera will begin at 1 p.m. at the Strand Theatre, 345 Main St.

Director Nicholas Hytner makes his Met debut with this new production of Verdi’s most ambitious opera. Roberto Alagna sings the title role, joined by Marina Poplavskaya as Elisabeth de Valois, Anna Smirnova as Princess Eboli, Simon Keenlyside as Rodrigo and Ferruccio Furlanetto as Philip II. Yannick Nézet-Séguin, back after his triumphant Met debut leading “Carmen,” will conduct.

Individual seats are $27. Encore performances are Tuesdays at 1 p.m., 10 days after the live performance. Encore tickets are $23, general admission.
