More than 300 wreaths are now on display at eight locations throughout Knox, Lincoln and Waldo counties. They are all part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Midcoast Maine’s “Bids for Kids” Wreath Auction which started on Nov. 24 and continues through Dec. 8. Proceeds from the fundraising auction support the non-profit organization’s youth mentoring programs throughout the three-county area.

The wreaths include: an exciting Red Sox package with two State Street Pavilion Seats and round trip transportation to and from the game; an overnight windjammer cruise for two; a lobster dinner cruise for two; YMCA and health club memberships; an Eric Hopkins framed watercolor; golf packages from several local courses; gift certificates from local stores and restaurants; concert tickets; and many extravagant spa and salon packages.

“Local businesses, organizations and individuals have stepped up to decorate the wreaths we’ve provided to them, and now we hope the public will step up to bid on the wreaths ,” said event organizer Cathy Hardy in a press release. “This year, we’ve made it very easy for people to acquire the wreaths they want, without waiting for the close of the silent auction bidding which ends Dec. 3. They can simply pay the total value price on the wreath’s bid sheet and take the wreath home with them that very day,” she said. Already, more than a dozen of the wreaths have been snapped up from wreath display sites at the Camden banks. “People have been glad they can get the wreath they really want without waiting,” said Hardy.

All wreaths are on display at the following locations: Camden National Bank branches in Camden, Rockland, Waldoboro and downtown Belfast; Key Bank at the Camden Square Plaza; Bangor Savings Bank in Unity; and Bath Savings Institution in Damariscotta.

Approximately 90 wreaths, which are valued at more than $100, will be featured at several live auctions to be held in Camden, Owls Head, Damariscotta and Belfast. These live auctions will take place at Camden National Bank’s downtown office on Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. as part of the Christmas by the Sea festivities; at the Damariscotta River Grill on Dec. 4 from 4 to 5 p.m.; at the Owls Head Transportation Museum on Dec. 5 from 2:15 to 2:45 p.m. during intermission at their free holiday concert; and at Camden National Bank’s Belfast branch office on Dec. 8 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. as part of the Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours event. Approximately 20 to 30 wreaths will be auctioned at each location by local auctioneers John Bottero and Kaja Veilleux from Thomaston Place Auction Galleries, who are donating their services to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Midcoast Maine.

People can bid on these live auction wreaths by going online to the website at www.bbbsmcm.org. Absentee bids will be accepted up until one hour before each live auction for those unable to attend.
