The Caldbeck Gallery, 12 Elm St. will celebrate the holiday season with a group exhibit called “Drawing Show,” which will open with a holiday party and reception on (First) Friday, Dec. 3 from 5 to 8 p.m.

More than 70 artists have been invited to share several of their drawings, and the term “drawing” is left open to the artist’s interpretation. In addition to artists who show regularly with the Caldbeck, the gallery invited a number of artists who are new talent to the Midcoast area; and invited a number who show with other Rockland galleries.

Even though “Drawing Show” represents only a small portion of the enormous talent working throughout Maine, the Caldbeck staff hopes that everyone will come in to enjoy the wide range of visions included in this show. Through their drawings, one often can see the “back room of the artist’s mind,” as one artist put it. One of the things the Caldbeck hopes will come out of this show is that any viewer might ask, “What is a drawing?” Each artist seems to have a different answer to that question.

“Drawing Show” will continue through Dec. 23, and gallery hours will be Tuesdays through Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. After the new year, the show will return and continue through the end of January with hours Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
