The woman found dead Nov. 23 on Thompson Meadow Road has been positively identified by the medical examiner’s office as 47-year-old Katrina Windred, said Maine Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

Windred, of Friendship, was last seen around 6:30 p.m., Nov. 20, while visiting friends on Main Street in Rockland. Her friends reported the next day that she was missing.

McCausland could not say Nov. 24 whether the death is being treated as a homicide; he said the medical examiner’s office will make that determination. He said the investigation continues into the death.

Windred’s body was found Nov. 23 at noon by a man walking his dog on Thompson Meadow Road, off Old County Road. Police would not say if there were signs of foul play. They would not describe the scene other than to say it was a woman found alongside the road.

On Friday, Nov. 26, McCausland said there were no new developments in the case. He said detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Windred’s death, and there is no need for public alarm.
