CRAFT gallery will re-open for the holiday season Friday, Nov. 26 with new work by the gallery’s favorite contemporary craft artists. CRAFT is located in the brick courtyard at 12 Elm St., across from the Farnsworth Art Museum and between the Caldbeck and Landing galleries.

In a world dominated by mass production, giving a gift made by hand is a thoughtful and special way to recognize and support these Maine artists. CRAFT offers tree ornaments in glass and paper; shawls and scarves by Cynthia McGuirl, Susan Atwater and Beryl Schmid; jewelry by four Maine master jewelers; handmade books by Laurie Adams and Alison Kuller’ pottery by George Pearlman and Simon van der Ven; and bird sculptures by Riv Pyne.

Joining them is calligraphy artist Jan Owen of Belfast, whose work is an example of everything CRAFT gallery represents — the intersection of design, fine art and craft. Owen writes with pens and brushes in an age of computer technology, and CRAFT is honored to offer her work to collectors and admirers of her calligraphy, poetry and books. Her new accordion fold “banners” that combine words and poetry by old and new masters make very special gifts for the holidays.

Holiday hours will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday, Nov. 26 through 28; and Thursday through Sunday, Dec. 2 through 5. CRAFT also is open by appointment; call 594-0167 or visit craftonelm.com.
