Volunteers are needed to join the planning committee for the 2011 Relay For Life of Midcoast.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration where individuals and teams camp out and take turns walking around a track relay style to raise funds, while celebrating the lives of those who have had cancer, remembering those lost, and fighting back against a disease that takes too much.

Planning committee members are needed to organize and recruit teams, seek community support, coordinate logistics, find refreshments and prizes, and plan entertainment. To join the Relay For Life of Midcoast planning committee, come to a meeting on Thursday, Nov. 18 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Wave Café at Camden Hills Regional High School, located at 25 Keelson Drive in Rockport.

“Relay For Life is as much an awareness raiser about the progress against cancer as it is a fundraiser,” said Melissa Cushman, Community Executive for the American Cancer Society. “Individuals who are willing to give their time and energy to this exciting event as a member of the planning committee have made a commitment to fight back against this disease and let the community know that you can beat cancer.”

To attend the meeting and learn more about becoming a member of the committee, please contact Melissa Cushman by Nov. 17 at 373-3723 or by e-mail, Melissa.Cushman@cancer.org.
