There was a session of live music and poetry reading Thursday afternoon, Nov. 11 at the downtown David Scriven Crowley Gallery, 409 Main St.

The subject of the Veterans Day music and readings was peace and war over the centuries, from the “The Iliad” to present-day Afghanistan. Presenters included Vincent “Blind Albert” Gabriel, singing his songs about Vietnam; classicist Susan Connelley, reading from Homer; poets Christopher Fahy of Thomaston and Gary Lawless of Nobleboro; and Rockland Poet Laureate Kendall Merriam, whose poem about the World War II Katyn Forest Massacre was read in a Polish translation by Marta Crowl.
