F. Michael Young, chief engineer with Seadrill Americas, Inc., will be the guest speaker at the November meeting of the Searsport/Bucksport Chapter of the Propeller Club of America.

The meeting will be held Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the Belfast Shriners’s Club, Northport Avenue, Belfast. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. and a buffet dinner will be served at 7 p.m.

Young’s presentation will focus on the Deepwater Horizon explosion and subsequent oil spill. His position as Rig Leader and his oversight of rig construction make him qualified to discuss the circumstances that led to the worst oil spill in U.S. history. In addition to his more than 20 years in the offshore drilling industry, Young has introduced many students at Maine Maritime Academy to the growing industry through his tenure as associate professor of marine engineering.

The cost for the buffet dinner is $25 and reservations are required.
