The Rockport Planning Board will hold a public hearing Wednesday, Nov. 17 to review an application by Samorock L.L.C., represented by Gartley and Dorsky, for a revision to a previously approved site plan for a 2,664-square-foot patio and spa attached to the existing hotel on a parcel identified as Map 1, Lot 170 located in District 909.

The Samoset Resort announced a major renovation project to be debuted in early 2011, which will include the addition of a full-service seaside spa, a restaurant and three new luxury guest cottages.

According to a press release, the improvements are the result of an investment by Samorock LLC, an affiliate of Ocean Properties Ltd., and will take place during the regularly scheduled seasonal closing, which will begin Nov. 28. The resort will continue to serve the group market in March and April and the health club and timeshare facilities will remain open during the entire renovation process.

When the renovations are complete in early 2011, the Samoset will debut a new Italian restaurant called La Bella Vita Restaurant and Enoteca Lounge. La Bella Vita will feature an authentic antipasto bar, a wood-fired oven and a marketplace for Italian specialty foods. La Bella Vita will replace what is currently Marcel’s and the Breakwater Café.

The new full-service spa will include five treatment rooms.

In 2010, 18 suites, including the Breakwater Luxury Suite and the Hot Tub Suites, were refurbished to add new furniture, bedding, fixtures, lighting, moldings, vanities, mirrors and 32-inch LCD flat-screen televisions. In addition, the Flume Cottage was completely renovated to include a new kitchen, bathrooms, floors, windows, furnishings and soft-goods. The golf cart fleet was also updated to include 72 brand-new vehicles.

All Rockport town offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day, and Thursday, Nov. 25 and Friday, Nov. 26 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Nov. 17 meeting of the Rockport Planning Board will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Rockport Opera House; it will be televised on Channel 22.
