The Rockland Public Library is joining libraries across the state in participating in “Snapshot Day – Libraries Connect” on Tuesday, Nov. 9 to show how important public libraries are to the citizens of Maine. Snapshot Day is being sponsored by the Maine State Library, Maine Library Association and the Maine Association of School Libraries.

On Nov. 9, the Rockland Public Library will compile statistics, customer comments, photographs and other data chronicling a typical library day. The results collected at the Rockland Public Library will be added to those of public, school, academic and special libraries across Maine to show how libraries provide invaluable services to Maine citizens.

Linda Lord, Maine State Librarian, “How many people use Maine libraries on a typical day and what services do they receive? The collective data from Snapshot Day 2009 stunned some policy makers! Our libraries are busier than ever and provide more services than ever. We’re hoping for even more libraries to participate this year, so we can demonstrate to supporters and decision makers the importance of library service in Maine.”
