The tourists may have left, but the art scene has not disappeared from the city’s downtown.  At Art Space Gallery, 342 Main St., October’s  Front Room exhibit has been extended through Thanksgiving. On Friday, Nov. 5, in conjunction with Arts in Rockland’s Night AIR gallery night, Art Space will remain open until 8 p.m.

The Front Room show features the works of Laurie Bellmore, Lauren Gill, Annie Mahoney and Joan Wright, all local artists. At the same time, new works by all 19 artists of the cooperative gallery appear throughout the other rooms. Although Art Space is now officially now only on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., passersby also may find the gallery doors open by chance or appointment, especially on nice weather days.

Following the success of offering free shipping the day the big cruise ship was in town, members of the artist-run gallery have decided on another special event that is sure to attract local holiday shoppers. The day after Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 26 (traditionally the busiest shopping day of the year), Art Space Gallery will open its “Holiday Show” with works in the Front Room all priced less than $100.

The year’s final Night AIR, Friday, Dec. 3, will again see Art Space open until 8 p.m. and featuring these great values. For more information, call 594-8784; visit artspacemaine.com; or check out the Facebook page.
