This year Heavenly Threads Thrift Shop, located on Elm Street in Camden, celebrates its 15th year of serving the surrounding communities with fashions for the whole family, small household goods and other donated items.

In all those years, the mannequin who has stood out in the summer’s hot sun and the cold windy winters plus has stood in the rain, sleet and snow and at times been blown off the front stairs, has always been known as just “the girl”, “our lady” or “our model.” She now has her own name, very appropriately she’ll now be known as “Thrifty Thelma.”

Because she is such a part of the friendly greeting customers receive when they enter Heavenly Threads, the shop volunteers thought it was about time for her to have her own name. In September, Heavenly Threads held a “Name the Girl Contest”. The winning entry, “Thrifty Thelma” was suggested by Rockport’s summer resident, Lynn Adams. Adams is presently at her Florida home and donated her $20 gift certificate prize to one of our other customers. The second name chosen was “Pearly Gates.”

Heavenly Threads Thrift Shop is an outreach program of the First Congregational Church. The proceeds after expenses help support charitable needs of all of Knox County. For questions concerning merchandise, donations, tax deductions, or volunteering, call 236-3203.
