Wal-Mart and health insurer Humana Inc. are teaming up to offer a low-cost Medicare Part D prescription drug plan. In Rockland, applicants will be guided and serviced by Allen Insurance and Financial, the chosen agent for the Knox County area.

“We are pleased to be able to help our friends and neighbors with this service,” said Rick Bagnall, insurance specialist at Allen Insurance and Financial. “It’s so important to have your questions answered by a trusted local resource.”

Shoppers in the Rockland Wal-Mart can find the Medicare table near the pharmacy during the sign-up period from Oct. 15 to Dec. 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. For more information locally, call Rick Bagnall at 236-4311.

The Humana Wal-Mart-Preferred Rx Plan will have a premium of $14.80 per month, which the companies say is the lowest premium for any standalone national plan in 2011.

“One of the primary goals of health care reform is to make health coverage more affordable – and that’s what we’re doing with the introduction of this low-cost Medicare Part D plan,” said William Fleming, vice president of Humana Pharmacy Solutions. “People are more likely to take the medications prescribed for them when they can afford those medications. And adhering to prescription-drug regimens can enable people to be healthier and prevent future illness.”
