The Metropolitan Opera’s Peabody and Emmy award-winning “The Met: Live in HD” series continues its fifth season, featuring 12 live transmissions to theaters worldwide, Saturday, Oct. 23 with a new production of Modest Mussorgsky’s “Boris Godunov.” The opera will begin at noon at the Strand Theatre, 345 Main St.

Bass René Pape takes on one of opera’s most dramatic roles in this new production by Stephen Wadsworth, and Valery Gergiev conducts Mussorgsky’s tragic historical epic. Aleksandrs Antonenko and Ekaterina Semenchuk are among the other leading artists in a work that also is a showcase for the Met’s formidable chorus.

Season tickets to “The Met: Live in HD” transmissions at the Strand Theatre are $297, and individual seats are $27. Encore performances are Tuesdays at 1 p.m., 10 days after the live performance.
