The Midcoast Chapter of the Maine Women’s Network invites members, guests, and the general public to its second meeting on Nov. 3 at Rub’s Restaurant, also known as The Haven Event Center on Route 90 in Rockport. Each meeting provides meaningful networking opportunities for members to market themselves and their businesses, as well as to make personal contacts.

This meeting is sponsored by Midcoast Chapter member Amy Lear, from Farm Family Life Insurance Company.

The Midcoast Chapter is excited to announce the second of its “Healthy, Wealthy & Wise” speaker series. The presenters are a mix of women with expertise in the areas of finance, business development, non-profit leadership, social entrepreneurship, health and wellness. This series will be filled with practical, hands-on, ready-to-use information, knowledge and advice that members and guests will be able to use immediately to help them meet both personal and professional goals.

The Maine Women’s Network welcomes local and nationally recognized author Kate Braestrup who is also a Unitarian-Universalist chaplain to the Maine Warden Service. Her New York Times best-selling memoir, “Here If You Need Me,” won the Barnes and Noble Discover Award for nonfiction. Her magazine articles have appeared in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, and O, The Oprah Magazine. She has also authored “Marriage and Other Acts of Charity,” an intimate look at the challenging terrain of marriage.

After her husband, Maine State Trooper Drew Griffith was killed in 1996, she recognized that his dream to become a Unitarian-Universalist minister was also the path for her to follow. Braestrup, who always thought of herself as a writer, combined her love of writing and the ministry to write her books and articles using her own personal experiences as well as observations from her work as a chaplain.

Braestrup will address the Maine Women’s Network the day after her third book  “Beginner’s Grace: Bringing Prayer to Life” hits the bookshelves. “Beginner’s Grace” is a good-humored approach to spirituality for everyone. Copies of the book will be available for sale.

The cost, which includes full buffet and dessert, time for networking and the presentation, is $20 for members, $25 for guests of members and $28 for non-members. Non-members are always welcome. Members are encouraged to register their guests in advance for the member guest rate. Online pre-registration for members, guests and non-members is required by Oct. 27.
