The Waldoboro Woman’s Club held their first meeting of the 2010-2011 year with a luncheon Sept. 14 at the VFW Hall on Mill Street in Waldoboro. The hostesses were Jane Seidel, Charlotte Gulezian and Marylyn Michaud.

July and August birthdays were celebrated by Bette Hilton, Marylyn Michaud, Melissa McEntire and Mary Monaghan.

September birthdays are celebrated by Marilyn Andrews, Dona Williams, Susan Butters, Korby Clement, Linda Gagnon and Joan Johnson.

A thank-you note was read from the Waldoboro Day Committee for the club’s donation. Thank-you notes were also received from scholarship recipients Douglas Blasius, Josie Davis and Jonathan Dailey.

The annual Whale of a Sale held June 26 raised monies for scholarships to local high school seniors, continuing education, as well as for different organizations within the town. Club members thanked the merchants and residents in the community for their support.

The new co-presidents of District 2, Maine Federation of Women’s Clubs, are Carol Jarvis and Gail Pooler.

Donations for the Waldoboro/Bremen Food Pantry were collected.

The Legislative Council met in Augusta Sept. 16. Two candidates for governor spoke: Republican Paul LePage and independent Shawn Moody. Dona Williams, Judi Lawrence, Carol Hall Perry and Alice De Patsy represented the club.

The Union of Women’s Clubs will hold their luncheon at the Lincoln Home on Oct. 28 at noon. The Woman’s Club is in charge of the event. The cost of the luncheon is $16.

Mary Lee Merrill and Melissa McEntire will represent the club at the Waldoboro Business Showcase on Wednesday, Oct. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Medomak Middle School. Set-up is at 4 p.m.

The German Protestant Ladies Auxiliary, representing the Old German Church, met at the home of Faye Hauck on Sept. 18.

Members who served at the Waldoborough Historical Society during the summer were thanked for their efforts.

The Maine Federation of Women’s Clubs will hold their fall conference at the Holiday Inn in Waterville on Oct. 12-13. Theme of the conference is “Home Sweet Home … Reaching out Beyond our Own.” Suzanne Raymond is the new president of the MFWC. The project for her tenure is “Operation Smile,” which is an organization that repairs cleft lip and cleft palates around the world.

The next meeting of the Waldoboro Woman’s Club will be held Tuesday, Oct. 12 at noon at the VFW Hall on Mill Street. The guest speaker will be Carol Ransom of the Lincoln Home. The hostesses are Alice Duff and Penelope Crane.
