On Sunday, Sept. 19, six students graduated from Rockland Congregational Church’s Summer 2010 God’s Wondrous Gifts children’s photography program.

The children displayed their prize winning photos at a gallery opening and reception held in the church lounge. For the rest of the fall season the work will be hung in the church’s art gallery, and in time for Christmas giving, the images will be made into a calendar. God’s Wondrous Gifts introduces children to photography by supplying them with a high-quality disposable camera and offering instruction in how to use it and in photography as an art form, while identifying images which speak to the viewer about God’s gifts to us in this world. The children each choose two favorites from their developed photos, which are then juried for the gallery opening.

Prize-winning images included seascapes, pastoral scenes, flowers, a young family member, a contemplative picture of the church’s sanctuary, and an evocative image of family ties expressed through mother and daughter rocking chairs.
