BarterWorX, a barter company also called a trade exchange, based in Warren, owned by Marilyn and Rick Johnson, has teamed up with The Boathouse Restaurant and Raw Bar in Rockland to host a social mixer and fund-raising event.

BarterWorX and its members are inviting local business people to attend its first monthly mixer/fundraiser on Sept. 22  from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Boathouse Restaurant, 58 Ocean St.

“This is a great opportunity to socialize and network your business, learn about other local businesses and help out a great cause all at the same time” said Marilyn Johnson, President of BarterWorX.

“Our first event will benefit U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq and the children of Iraq. Our son, Cpl. Benjamin Johnson from the 94th Military Police is in Iraq training and working with Iraqi police. Unlike Ben’s first tour in Iraq where the troops needed necessities like water, socks, and towels, he has told me that the soldiers currently wish for soccer balls for the kids in Iraq. He tells me that the children there love soccer, but their equipment is inadequate. The only thing the soldiers want for themselves are healthful snacks. Their real wish is for the kids.”

The event is intended to bring together existing members of BarterWorX, as well as local business people who may be interested in learning more about BarterWorX. BarterWorX specializes in connecting local businesses with one another to barter goods and services.

Please bring your donations of soccer balls, pumps and needles for the balls, monetary donations and/or healthful snacks for the soldiers to this exciting event. Meet other business people and enjoy refreshments and have some fun. If  unable to attend, donations can be made by contacting Marilyn Johnson at barterworx@gmail.com or call 273-8052.
