The United Christian Church of Lincolnville welcomes visitors of all faiths Sunday, Sept. 19 at 9:30 a.m. as the church celebrates the International Day of Peace.

Events celebrating World Peace Day are held around the world during the week of Sept. 21, the official date as set by the United Nations, to encourage all to work in cooperation toward that goal.

Worship will be led by the Rev. Dr. Susan Stonestreet with a theme based on 1 Timothy 2: 1-7, Bible verses that urge acts to lead us toward peaceful lives.

The Wing and a Prayer Choir, under the direction of Mary Schulien, will provide topical music, and Peter Walker, a student at Camden Hills Regional High School, will be the organist.

A peace candle will be lit during the service, a tradition that began at the start of the war in Iraq.

A reception in the adjacent community building will follow the service.

The United Christian Church of Lincolnville is affiliated with the United Church of Christ. It is open year round and welcomes people of all faiths.

The United Christian Church is located in Lincolnville Center on the Searsmont Road (Route 173 just north of its intersection with Routes 52 and 235).
