West Bay Rotary had a phenomenal ‘Chowder Challenge’ over the Labor Day weekend on a ‘Chamber of Commerce’ day, despite the eleventh-hour adjustments to the Camden Windjammer Festival caused by Hurricane Earl.

There were eight challengers vying for the bragging rights for best chowder on the Midcoast. They were: Bayview Lobster, Blue Sky Cantina, Cappy’s Chowder House, Quarry Hill Retirement Community, Corner Shop Restaurant, Village Restaurant, Rockport Road House and Graffam’s Seafood Market.

More than 350 hungry participants converged on the Camden Public Landing to sample the wide variety of amazing chowders proffered by the contestants. ‘Exit Poll’ comments ranged from “Best chowder I’ve ever had,” to “Completely fulfilled our expectations,” and finally, “We wish we lived here to enjoy this wonderful sense of chowder and community all year long.”

When the final critical gustatory public ballot was tallied, the results revealed that Cappy’s Chowder House took third place, Graffam’s Seafood Market came in second and Quarry Hill Retirement Community took the coveted first place honors.

West Bay Rotary extends our most heartfelt thanks to the following for their participation in making this event a huge success: Bayview Lobster, Blue Sky Cantina, Cappy’s Chowder House, Quarry Hill Retirement Community, Corner Shop Restaurant, Village Restaurant, Rockport Road House, Graffam’s Seafood Market, French & Brawn, Party Fundamentals, Penobscot Bay YMCA, The Rig and MidCoast Interact Club.

All the proceeds from this event will support West Bay Rotary projects in the local community and internationally, helping those in need by fulfilling Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self”.
