In the spring of 2011, Trekkers, a youth-mentoring organization that connects caring adults with young people through the use of travel, outdoor-based education and community service, will begin expanding its programs into the communities of Rockland, Owls Head, and South Thomaston.

On Sunday, Sept. 26 from 4 to 5:30 p.m., Trekkers will be hosting a community meeting at the Rockland District High School auditorium to share more about their plans for expansion. The meeting will explain the mission, history, vision and future of Trekkers, as well as how new students attending RSU 13 can get involved.

In keeping with its mission, Trekkers views the diverse issues of combining the communities involved in the school consolidation as an opportunity to build even more positive relationships between caring adults and young people growing up in the Midcoast area. If you have any questions about the expansion plan or have an interest in getting involved with the organization, please plan to attend.
