In accordance with Federal Public law 107-89, designating Sept. 11 each year as “Patriot Day,” Gov. John Baldacci has directed that the United States flag and the State of Maine flag be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset Saturday, Sept. 11.

“We will never forget the horrific attacks on our country on Sept. 11, 2001,” Baldacci said, in a press release. “We lost many Americans that day. We should all take time to remember those who died nine years ago, and also honor the men and women who selflessly gave of themselves to try and save their fellow Americans during the attacks. They will never be forgotten.”

This year marks the ninth anniversary of the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
