A traditional shape note singing is held in Belfast the second Monday of every month; this month’s singing will run 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 13 in First Church Fellowship Hall, between Church and Court streets with the entrance on Spring Street.

The singers will be warming up for their demonstration in the Maine Folk Life Tent at Common Ground Country Fair. The demos will be on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 25 and 26 in Unity.

The energetic four-part unaccompanied singing tradition dates from Colonial New England. Books (“Sacred Harp” and “Northern Harmony”) are available for loan and purchase. Newcomers are most welcome. For more information, call 338-1265 or 594-5743.
