On Sunday, Sept. 12 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Merryspring Nature Center will host a free family workshop on forts and fairy houses.

Participants can build their own secret fortress in the woods, or construct a tiny home for imaginary forest dwellers. Merryspring will supply ideas and natural building supplies; children and grown-ups supply the creativity. Special emphasis will be given on ways to reduce the environmental impact of the activity.

Fort building and fairy houses is part of Merryspring’s ongoing Outdoor Adventures series led by environmental educator Leo Maheu and offered on the second Sunday of the month from June through September, and focusing on a different family-friendly, outdoor activity each month. A second series, Nature Explorers, is offered on the fourth Sunday of each month from June through September and introduces a different nature-based topic each month.

Family programs are offered at no charge. Activities are designed for ages 5-12 but are open to all ages. All children must be accompanied by an adult. In case of rain, please check for cancellation.

Merryspring is a member-supported, non-profit nature education center and park located at the end of Conway Road just off Rtoute 1 by the Hannaford shopping plaza in Camden. For more information, call Merryspring at 236-2239 or visit the website at www.merryspring.org.
