The Camden Hills girls soccer team defeated Wiscasset 8-0 Aug. 30 in a preseason game. The score was 2-0 at halftime.

Camden Hills finished with 18 shots on goal and six corner kicks. Lindsay Bumbalo made one save on one shot in the Windjammer net.

Melanie Vangel scored on a pass from Erin Pierce with 25:14 remaining in the first half. Mia Maddox followed with a goal at 24:40 when she headed in a direct kick served by Kristina Alex just outside the 18-yard line.

The second half proved exciting when Jackay Richards scored just inside the box as the ball was batted around. This goal came at 35:23. Cailland Sweeting followed two minutes later as the Windjammers attacked off a corner kick served by Richards. Vangel headed the ball toward the goal and it was deflected to Julia Gowesky. Gowesky could not get a clean shot off and the ball bounced to the 18 where Sweeting was ready.

The ‘Jammers continued their scoring barrage as Marnie Merrill crossed the ball to Caroline Matteo, who passed to Vangel, who finished the attack with 23 minutes to go.

Wiscasset had one solid scoring opportunity when Alex was called for a foul in the box giving Wiscasset a penalty kick. Bumbalo made a diving save to her right by deflecting the ball away from the goal. Alex cleared the ball to prevent Wiscasset from getting on the scoreboard.

The Windjammer attack continued as Lexi Doudera served a ball over the defenders for Julie Beauchesne, who sprinted to the goal and collided with the keeper. Two minutes later Vangel served a ball to Richards on the 18 and Richards took a shot but Matteo was offsides so the goal did not count. Seconds later Matteo scored off a pass from Merrill.

Vangel scored her third goal when she received a pass from Sweeting and attacked up the left side of the field and took it straight to the goal. Vangel shot hard and to the far post for the finish.

Alex completed the scoring for Camden Hills when she converted a pass from Beauchesne.
