The Waldoboro Public Library art exhibit for September includes more 20 small quilts by the Georges Valley Quilters. The many talented quilters have chosen some of their favorites to display.

Featured will be a number of quilts made for this past year’s challenge. Those who participated in the challenge received a brown paper bag with unknown materials of a specific size from which they made a 12-bu-12-inch quilt. In July, these quilts were exhibited at the Pine Tree Quilters Show at the Civic Center in Augusta. Some are self-portraits from a past challenge and others are prize winners.

Members of the Georges Valley Quilters come from a wide area including Camden, Rockland, Port Clyde, St. George, Owls Head, Tenants Harbor, Cushing, Lincolnville, Rockport, Thomaston and Waldoboro. Members meet 10 a.m. on the first and third Thursdays of each month, September through June, at the Federated Church on Hyler Street in Thomaston. New members are always welcome.

Quilts in the library exhibit were created by Janet Knapp, St. George; Pat Van Horn, Thomaston; Barbara Mayers, Rockport; Deb Arnett, Tenants Harbor; Susan Gerhardt, South Thomaston; Mimi Sykes and Diana Gay, Rockland; Milly Young, Ida Berg and Laura June, Cushing; Sally Cran, Owls Head; and Gerry Hungerford and Ann Bischoff, Waldoboro.
