Elsie Colby of Spruce Head was surprised Aug. 22  with a surprise
90th birthday party at the Wessaweskeag Historical Society in South
Thomaston.

About 75 people attended, including her daughters and other family as well as friends. She received greetings from Sen. Chris Rector, R-Thomaston on behalf of the state government; Selectman Pennie Alley, with congratulations from the board of selectmen of South Thomaston; and even a card from the White House, bearing the signatures of Barack and Michelle Obama.

Elsie was joined by her husband Ralph at the festivities, and there was a brief summary of her life, including the fact that she was an Army nurse in World War II.
