On Friday, Sept. 3, Rock City’s Velvet Lounge will welcomes back Mehuman Jonson, and award-winning songwriter, singer and guitarist who has toured extensively throughout North America and Europe and now lives in Rockland.

The music will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rock City Books & Coffee, 328 Main St., Rockland.

Playing an original mix of acoustic neo-soul and Americana, with influences of jazz, funk and gospel, Jonson, whose first name is pronounced MAY-mon, and her Mehuman Trio create a sonic palette that defies a single label. Formed in September of 2008, they have played for standing-room-only crowds in Belfast, Camden, Rockland and Rockport and are in the process of recording their first album of original material.

For the Velvet Lounge, Jonson will be accompanied by Daisy Lee, an 8-year-old singer/songwriter from Friendship in what is sure to be a fun show. There is no cover charge, but tipping the musicians is always encouraged. For more information on this and other upcoming events at the local coffee shop/book store, call 594-4123.
