Joyce L. Flood, 84, died Aug. 25, 2010, at Southington Care Center in Southington. She was the wife of David W. Flood.

Joyce was born June 23, 1926, in Augusta, the daughter of the late Clarence and Edith (Choate) Philbrick.

Joyce taught at Chapman School in Cheshire for over 25 years prior to her retirement.

Besides her husband, Joyce is survived by two sons, James A. and his wife, Deborah Flood, of Southington and Robert L. and his wife, Marybeth Flood, of Plantsville; a daughter, Marilyn and her husband, Richard Rock, of Cheshire; a brother, Leighton and his wife, Barbara Philbrick, of Cumberland; two sisters Barbara Mertz of Corsicana, Texas, and Jayne Davis of Framingham, Mass.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joyce was predeceased by a son, Kenneth R. Flood; and two brothers-in-law, Dr. Robert Mertz and Edward Davis.

Funeral services for Joyce will be held Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 59 Main St. in Cheshire, Conn. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday, Aug. 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St.
