Small to medium-sized organizations involved in indigenous, ethnic or rural arts programs or projects, particularly those that serve areas with limited access to arts activities, are encouraged to apply for funding from the Maine Community Foundation’s Expansion Arts Fund.

The deadline is Sept. 15 for applying to this fund. For complete application guidelines and listing of recent grants, visit or contact Pam Cleghorn at or 877-700-6800.

Last year, the Expansion Arts Fund advisory committee awarded a total of $43,850. The 12 grants ranged in size from $1,440 to the maximum award amount of $5,000.

An advisory committee comprised of individuals knowledgeable about Maine’s arts and culture reviews proposals and makes recommendations. Community-based projects affiliated with local school districts are eligible if the funded performances or programs are open to the general public.

A statewide foundation with offices in Portland and Ellsworth, MaineCF partners with donors and nonprofits to strengthen Maine communities through philanthropy and leadership.
