The season finale performance of Little Brown Church’s summer concert series will take place Thursday, Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m. and feature the high-powered family band Greg Boardman and Sons. The church is on Route 32.

Boardman is a renowned fiddler in the Maine traditional music community and together with his sons, he brings a high-energy, full band sound to the jigs and reels typifying northern New England’s fiddling style. Boardman and Sons’ unconventional approach to the genre is in the instrumentation: Isaac, Aidan and Ethan Boardman add new dimension to the old sound with keyboard, guitar, bass and drum kit.

Boardman plays cello as well as fiddle and also can be heard with the Maine Country Dance Orchestra, fiddler Jessie Gagne-Hal and North Yarmouth’s Mighty Cloud of Fiddlers, a large group whose bi-annual performances he has organized since 1988. Boardman also co-founded the Maine Country Dance Workshop, the Arcady Fiddle Workshop and the Maine Fiddle Camp in Montville, where he appears annually as an instructor.

Admission is by suggested donation of $10. Attendees are encouraged to bring pillows to sit on, as the wooden pews are hard. For more information, visit the band’s Web site at bowandstring.com or send e-mail to Adam Nordell at wapiti.music@gmail.com.
