Bay Chamber Concerts will finishes its Summer Music Festival on a high note with the premiere of its 50th anniversary documentary and two First Chair All Stars concerts.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, Bay Chamber will host the premiere of a new documentary by D’Arcy Marsh at the Strand Theatre, 345 Main St. in Rockland. Bay Chamber Concerts was founded in 1961 by brothers Andrew Wolf and Thomas Wolf and is dedicated to sustaining classical music as an art form, a rich history explored in the new film short. Admission to the premiere screening, which will take place prior to the start of First Chair All Stars — Mostly Mozart concert, is free and open to the public.

First Chair All Stars are back

For its final two concert of the summer season, Bay Chamber will host the an extraordinary group of principal players from the Boston Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the National Symphony and the Pittsburgh Symphony, led by former Boston Symphony concertmaster Joseph Silverstein.

On Wednesday, Aug. 25 at 8 p.m. at the Strand, these First Chair All Stars will present a Mostly Mozart concert program featuring Mozart’s Adagio and Fugue K 546; his horn Quintet and clarinet Quintet; and Neilsen’s “Serenata in Vano.”

On Thursday, Aug. 26 at 8 p.m. at the Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St., the ensemble will present a Mostly Beethoven program featuring Rossini’s String Sonata; Beethoven’s Serenade for String Trio in D Major, Op. 8; and Beethoven’s Septet. This season finale concert is often a sell out.

This year’s First Chair All Stars include Silverstein and Nurit Bar-Josef, violins; Kirsten Johnson, viola; Anne Martindale Williams, cello; Timothy Cobb, bass; Anthony McGill, clarinet; James Sommerville, French horn; and Daniel Matsukawa, bassoon.

Concert tickets are $30 to $40, discounted for subscribers and groups of eight or more. A limited number of youth tickets for those younger than 19 are available for $8.

Bay Chamber Concerts presents music year-round through two performance series: the Summer Music Festival during the months of July and August featuring classical, jazz and film events in the historic Rockport Opera House and Strand Theatre in Rockland; and the Performing Arts Series from October through May, showcasing a variety of classical, jazz and world music, as well as dance events in venues throughout the Midcoast.
