The Knox County Democratic Committee will once again honor a dedicated volunteer and friend on Sunday, Aug. 22 when it holds its annual John Syrett Lobster Bake. Syrett died in a sailing accident in 2005 only a few days after successfully chairing that year’s lobster bake. The event was named after him in 2006. The bake, which has become a popular and fun tradition, is open to the public with advance payment.

The lobster bake will be held at the oceanfront home of Ken and Barbara Wexler in Owls Head beginning with a social hour at 4 p.m. The dinner, catered by Mike Mayo 4M Productions, begins at 5:15 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person, and the meal includes a lobster, mussels, corn, coleslaw, potato salad, potato chips, hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, soft drinks and cookies. Wine and beer will also be available.

Individuals and businesses are encouraged to become sponsors of the bake. To sign up as a sponsor, buy tickets or make a donation by credit card online, visit actblue.com/page/Lobsterbake2010. For information on becoming a sponsor, to pay by credit card or for questions, call Stu Thro at 594-8611 or Bonnie Post at 594-9263. Payment may also be mailed to the Knox County Democratic Committee, P.O. Box 452, Rockland, ME 04841. Prepayment must be received by Aug. 18 to attend the event.

Democratic candidate for governor Libby Mitchell and Chris Appel will speak at the John Syrett Lobster Bake. Chellie Pingree will also attend and introduce Mitchell. Appel helped staff the Knox County Democratic headquarters in 2008, doing a great job and making many friends along the way.
