The Wailin’ Jennys will return to the Strand Theatre, 345 Main St., Saturday, Aug. 21 at 8 p.m. The contemporary folk-pop trio is known for their gorgeous three-part harmonies and arrangements of both original and traditional songs.

The trio’s latest recording, “Live At The Mauch Chunk Opera House,” has charted in the Top 10 on the Billboard charts since its release last year and clearly shows why The Wailin’ Jennys have become regulars on “A Prairie Home Companion” and have such a devoted fan following. Recognized across musical genres, the Jennys captivate audiences and critics alike with luminous songwriting and vocal and instrumental performances.

Soprano Ruth Moody (banjo, accordion, bodhran, guitar), mezzo Nicky Mehta (harmonica, percussion, guitar) and alto Heather Masse (vocals, upright bass) incorporate traditional old-time, bluegrass, Celtic and Cajun music into their own dynamic style. With their intuitive harmonies, engaging stage presence and uplifting repertoire, its no wonder that The Wailin’ Jennys have become one of the most popular acts with Strand Theatre audiences.

Joining the Jennys on this tour is frequent sideman Jeremy Penner, a multi-instrumentalist recognized worldwide for his first-class jazz and bluegrass improvisational style. He joins The Jennys on violin and mandolin.

General admission tickets are $28. For tickets or information, call the Strand Theatre at 594-0070 or visit
