Bay Chamber is offering two unusual concert events. The annual Music & Film evening will feature a screening of a silent film comedy with live accompaniment Wednesday, Aug. 18 at 8 p.m. at the Strand Theatre, 345 Main St., Rockland. The following night, an ensemble of guest musicians will play a program titled Two Pianos, Six Hands and More at the Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St. at 8 p.m.

Bay Chamber Concerts offers a free 7 p.m. music and art talk at the Farnsworth Art Museum before every Strand Theatre concert on Wednesday nights. In addition, free pre-concert talks take place every Thursday night at 7 p.m. featuring the musicians and artistic director Thomas Wolf before each Rockport Opera House concert; these talks are held in the downstairs meeting room.

Paragon does Keaton’s “Steamboat Bill, Jr.”

This year’s Music & Film evening will screen Buster Keaton’s “Steamboat Bill, Jr.” As the 1928 comic masterpiece is shown, the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra will play the original accompaniment, offering a rare opportunity to come to the movies and experience silent film the way it was seen almost a century ago.

Two pianos, three pianists

The Aug. 19 concert is sponsored by friends of the Bixler family. Performers are pianists Max Levinson, Frederick Moyer and Anastasia Antonacos with cellists Marc Johnson and Glenn Garlick and Courtney Prizrenac playing French horn. The festive evening of music includes Mozart’s Sonata in D Major, K. 448; Chopin’s Rondo in C Major, Op. 73; Schumann’s rarely heard Andante and Variations for two pianos, two cellos and French horn; Milhaud’s Scaramouche Suite; Mendelssohn’s Allegro Brillant, Op. 92; and Czerny’s Variations Brillantes on a Theme from the Opera “Norma” by Bellini for piano, six hands, Op. 297.

Tickets are $30 to $40, discounted for subscribers and groups of eight or more. A limited number of youth tickets for those younger than 19 are available for $8.
