The Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League and the Wag It Training Center of Lincolnville are organizing a Sea Dog Show as part of the Camden Windjammer Festival celebration. The Dog Show will be held on Sunday, Sept. 5, at the Camden Harbor Park beginning at 10 a.m. There will be a $5 registration fee for each participating dog. The registration fee will benefit the Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League.

Registration forms are available at camdenwindjammerfestival.com, at local veterinarian offices and at the Camden Rockport Animal Rescue League in Rockport or they can be picked up the day of the event at Harbor Park starting at 9 a.m. To pre-register, take application forms to the shelter or the Camden-Rockport Chamber of Commerce building on the public landing prior to Saturday, Sept. 4.

Featured at the dog show will be a drill team performance set to music presented by Wag It Training Center, of Lincolnville. The Sea Dogs Obstacle Challenge will feature teams of dogs and  human companions, who will navigate a course that includes a lobster trap maze, pirate plank, tunnel, jump and hoops. Teams will be judged on teamwork and enthusiasm, as well as ability to perform each of the obstacles in a timely fashion.

At 9:15 a.m., registered participants can do a practice run for the competition that begins at 10 a.m. There will also be contests to determine the following tallest dog, smallest dog, heaviest dog, longest fur/hair, prettiest eyes and longest tail; prizes will be awarded to winners in each category.

The Camden Windjammer Festival is a community-led celebration of Camden’s maritime heritage and living traditions. From the age of sail when four, five, and even six-masted schooners were launched into Camden Harbor, through the birth of the windjammer business in the 1930s and continuing with the vessels that visit or call Camden home every summer, the sailing ships have helped define the community.

The 2010 Festival is sponsored by Down East, Camden National Bank, Wayfarer Marine, The Allen Agency, The First, Cellardoor Winery, and the Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce.
