Midcoast Community Band director Jo Anne Parker of St. George has scheduled several performances by the band for the month of August as part of its 25th anniversary year.

On Wednesday, Aug. 11, the band will play rain or shine at the Tenants Harbor Odd Fellows Hall beginning at 6:45 p.m. If the weather is good, the band will play outside in the parking lot; listeners are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs. If the weather is bad, the concert will be inside the hall on Watts Avenue.

On Sunday, Aug. 15, the band will play its annual concert at the ‘Keag, the patch of grass at the riverside in South Thomaston across from the Wessaweskeag Historical Society building, Elm Street/Route 73, beginning at 1:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Aug. 21, the MCCB will travel to Union to participate in the opening events of the Union Fair, playing a mini-concert in the morning and then joining in the lineup for the Union Fair parade. On Wednesday, Aug. 25, the band will return to Tenants Harbor for an encore performance at the Odd Fellows Hall, also beginning at 6:45 p.m.

Parker hopes to schedule events in Thomaston and Friendship in the next couple of weeks, but is waiting for confirmation.

The Midcoast Community Band was established in 1986 and has been playing in local parades, doing benefit concerts and participating in town events ever since. The group is made up of volunteer musicians of all ages and rehearses weekly at the Thomaston American Legion building.

Anyone interested in joining the band or in need of more information about upcoming performances should call Parker at 372-6737.
