“Painterly Perspectives,” a show of new paintings by Irma Cerese, will open Friday, Aug. 6 at Landing Gallery, 8 Elm St. The public is invited to a First Friday reception with the artist from 5 to 8 p.m.

The show includes 52 recent landscape paintings that border on the abstract. Cerese has always been fascinated with color and her primary interest in painting is focused on color relationships. Her work has the ability to be seen simultaneously as landscape and abstract paint surface, as she strives to produce a compelling visual experience in its own right, rather than convey information or illustrate an idea.

Cerese received her formal training at the Academy of Art and the School of the Art Institute, both in Chicago. She maintained a studio in New York City until 1985 and her paintings are in numerous private, corporate and institutional collections in the United States and Europe. Currently, her principal affiliation is with Landing Gallery.

Summer hours are Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Fridays to 8 p.m.) and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
