Bay Chamber Concerts will present two different concerts Wednesday, Aug. 11 in an unusual setting: the Farnsworth Art Museum’s Wyeth Center on Union Street. Wednesday’s Papa Haydn concerts will be performed by the St. Lawrence String Quartet, who will present an all-Beethoven concert Thursday, Aug. 12 at the Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St.

Papa Haydn at the Wyeth Center

In a new collaboration, Bay Chamber Concerts and the Farnsworth Art Museum are offering two informal one-hour concerts, at 6:30 and 8:45 p.m., with musician discussions at the Wyeth Center. These programs will be devoted to works by the “father” of the string quartet, Franz Josef Haydn. The 6:30 p.m. program focuses on early quartets, Op. 2, No. 1 and Op. 20, No. 4 in D Major. The 8:45 p.m. p.m. will feature Haydn’s “The Seven Last Words of Christ” Quartet.

Tickets are $25 for one concert and $40 for both; $8 for youth younger than 19 per concert. Discounts are available with subscription. Audience members are welcome at one or both programs; however, tickets for the early Papa Haydn program are sold out. In the event of a sold-out concert, Bay Chamber Concerts often can accommodate those wishing to attend; simply call the office to be added to the waiting list. At 6 p.m., Bay Chamber will begin a first come, first served stand-by seating list based on return tickets and no-shows; call the Bay Chamber box office at 236-2823 for more details.

Papa Haydn I is sponsored by Harmon, Jones & Sanford. Papa Haydn II is co-sponsored by Lily Bistro, In Good Company and Rustica, some of which are among the downtown eateries participating in Bay Chamber’s Date Night in Rockland during the month of August.

Beethoven the Master

On Aug. 12 at 8 p.m. at the Rockport Opera House, Bay Chamber Concerts will present the St. Lawrence String Quartet performing Beethoven’s Quartet Op. 18, No. 5 and Quartet Op. 131 in its popular annual Beethoven concert. Tickets are $30 to $40, discounted for subscribers and groups of eight or more. A limited number of youth tickets for those younger than 19 are available for $8.
