The Port Clyde Art Galley will feature the works of Robert Schweizer at an opening reception Friday, Aug. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Schweizer has been painting along the Maine Coast for the past 30 years, primarily in the Port Clyde area and on Monhegan Island. He studied painting and sculpture in the 1960s and more recently spent 10 years of part-time study at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in Old Lyme, Conn. The primary focus of his painting is landscape and marine subjects, and his technique is impressionistic with a strong element of realism.

Schweizer’s work has been shown in galleries in Maine and Connecticut and many of his paintings are in private and corporate collections. This show at Port Clyde Art Gallery will be the first showing of a large body of work painted in Maine and represents a mature skill and obvious love for the coast. The show will run through Aug. 24.

Current Port Clyde Art Gallery members include Erik Amundsen, stoneware pottery; Larry N. Bailey, watercolors and acrylics; Amy Cornell, oils; Gillie Coyle, oil pastel, drawings and ink wash; Kelli LK Haines, photography; Lydia Kaeyer, watercolors; Gail Kingsbury, watercolors; Gena Neilson, oils and sculpture; Lowell “Si” Sibole, furniture; Gillian Sloat, oils; and Marianne Swittlinger, acrylic and mixed media.

The gallery is open Wednesdays through Mondays from 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and is located across from the General Store, upstairs in the barn at the Seaside Inn.
