Artist Kathleen Fox will display paintings of fishermen, lobster boats and scenes of the St. George Peninsula at the Ocean View Grange, Route 131, beginning with a 5 to 8 p.m. opening reception Friday, Aug. 6. Her show will continue Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 7 and 8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m..

For the past five years, Fox has created a calendar identifying local lobstermen and their boats by name and location. The calendars can be found in local stores and at Borders and other outlets through Maine Authors Publishing in Rockland. The 2011 calendar also will feature scenes such as the “back room” of the Harpoon restaurant in Port Clyde, where locals meet in the off season; and a young man hefting a 75-pound halibut on his way to the Dip Net restaurant in Port Clyde. Many paintings that appear in the calendars will be on sale at the August show.

The Ocean View Grange is located between Tenants Harbor and Port Clyde. Fox lives and works in Tenants Harbor and the surrounding community. She also teaches at the University College at Rockland. She can be reached at her gallery on Turkey Cove at 372-8863.
