Neo-historical contemporary artist Holly-Marie Haining has set extended hours through September at her SeaWitch Studio, 689 Friendship Road, 1.3 miles from Waldoboro village (on the right). SeaWitch is open Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Haining specializes in artwork by commission on furniture, canvas and walls and has worked primarily on historically accurate interpretations of whaling, sailing and New England coastal life. In recent years, however, her work has included whimsical and contemporary adaptations. In her studio on a hill above the Medomak River, Haining has most recently been working on a series of skyscapes; one-of-a-kind pieces of Coastal Cottage Furniture; and sculptural works created from the beach objects she gathers on trips to the shore. Her new blog,, has her most recent work, weekly musings and news on summer events.

Haining invites the public to visit her studio and resident flock of Shetland sheep to see original works of furniture, sculpture and, for those interested in custom work, view archived images of previous accomplishments. Visitors also can choose from a limited exhibition of original paintings and fine art prints.

Haining’s work can also be found at Archipelago at the Island Institute in Rockland, Maine Gathering, Camden; Debra Elizabeth’s, Wiscasset; Franciska Needham Gallery, Damariscotta; and Tidemark Gallery, Waldoboro. Appointments to discuss commissions for custom work may be scheduled seven days a week. For more information, call 249-7520.
