Beginning on Monday, July 26, the elegantly composed and delicately colored botanical illustrations of Linda Heppes Funk of Rockland will be on view in the Visitor Center of Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. The public is invited to a free wine and hors d’oeuvres reception for the artist Thursday, July 29 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Funk has 35 years of experience in design and illustration. She works only from live plant specimens, specializing in pencil, drybrush watercolor, gouache and metalpointe drawing. In addition to her work as a fine artist and decorative painter, she designs furnishings, fabrics and ceramic dinnerware. Her work is exhibited widely and appears in many publications.

The artist tutors private students at her studio in Maine and for many years has taught at various venues including the New York Botanical Garden; College of the Atlantic and the Farnsworth Art Museum in Maine; and, in Massachusetts, at the Creative Arts Center in Chatham, South Shore Art Center in Cohasset and Wellesley College.

In 2001, Funk received the coveted Award for Excellence in Botanical Art from the American Society of Botanical Artists. She is a current member of the board of directors of the ASBA and, in 2006, served as a juror for the Scholastic National Awards.

Funk’s exhibit at Maine Coastal Botanical Gardens, located off Barters Island Road a mile from the Boothbay common, will continue through Aug. 15. For more information, call 633-4333 or visit MaineGardens.org.
