The Owl & Turtle Bookshop of Camden celebrated its 40th anniversary in May. It was named Best of the Best Bookstore in Knox County for 2010 through a VillageSoup vote. Following that honor, it was voted Best Bookstore in Maine by a readers’ poll in Down East magazine.

Most of the staff serving the bookstore have worked there for 10 years or more. These include manager Joseph Barber, bookkeeper Mary Ann McCafferty, book buyer Dean Jorgenson, buyer and decor coordinator Carole Lerner, Ann Morris in sales and Matt Rasmussen in sales. The store is owned by Carole and Brett Lerner.

The bookstore is open 361 days a year. Hours vary according to the season. Many signings, book launchings, and special events take place at the store as well as in the community. Upcoming events are listed at owlandturtle.com.
