Rockport Public Library is offering Water Worlds: A Writing Workshop for Young Authors with visiting writer Burleigh Muten. The workshop will be held Monday and Tuesday, July 26 and Wednesday, July 28 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Marine Room of the library, 1 Limerock St.

The two-session workshop is for children age 10 through 14. Pre-registration is requested and can be made by calling 236-3642. The program is limited to 10 students and is free of charge.

Mermaids, creatures of the deep and current issues in the environment will fuel this dynamic writing program. Participants will explore the variety of waters open to the imagination of the writer. The emphasis will be on playing with words and enjoying the process of writing, rather than on grammar and punctuation. Attendees will leave this two-day program having experimented with an assortment of genres from poetry to prose.

Muten is the author of “Goddesses, A World of Myth and Magic”; “Grandfather Mountain, Stories of Gods and Heroes”; “Grandmother Stories, Wise Woman Tales from Many Cultures’; and “The Lady of Ten Thousand Names, Goddess Stories from Many Cultures.” She teaches at a progressive elementary school in Massachusetts.
