For years, Doug Day and his musical cronies have presented the week-long Sweet Chariot Music Festival on Swan’s Island. This year, the best of the fest will travel to the Midcoast mainland.

The local landing will begin with a kickoff dance party Friday, Aug. 6 at Farmers Fare, Cross Street at Route 90, Rockport. The Sweet Chariot String Band and dancemaster Fred Park will call a contra dance beginning 6:30 p.m., followed by general dancing and music mayhem fueled by The Toughcats at 8 p.m. Tickets, available at Farmers Fare, are $15 in advance and will be $20 at the door.

Farmers Fare will serve up a 6 p.m. supper the following day on the ski hill of the Camden Snow Bowl on Barnestown Road as part of the Sweet Chariot Music Festival Concert, which will begin 7 p.m. Supper is $10 and concert tickets are $20, $10 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are available at Farmers Fare, the Snow Bowl and by calling 236-3438.

The Sweet Chariot Music Festival Concert will feature 14 acts. Attendees should bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Rain location will be the Camden Opera House.

On Sunday, Aug. 8 the concert will be presented at the Arts and Recreation Center (ARC), High Street, Vinalhaven at 7:30 p.m. For tickets, call Tristan Jackson at 863-4191.
