Jesse Packard, son of Bill and Kathleen Packard of Union and brother of Tera Corson of Union, was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy at Naval Station Newport, R.I., on June 18.

Ensign Packard graduated from Naval Officer Candidate School and was administered the oath of office by his friend, retired Army Capt. Chris Moody of Appleton.

After graduation, Ensign Packard reported to Surface Warfare Officer School at Naval Station Newport. Upon completion of his studies, he will report to the USS Winston Churchill, homeported in Norfolk, Va. The Winston Churchill was built at Bath Iron Works, and serving on a “Bath built” ship was a priority for Ensign Packard.
