For the past 17 years, the town of St. George has celebrated St. George Days during the third weekend in July. It’s happening again this year, July 16 to July 18, spontaneously without a coordinating committee!

The festivities will begin Friday, July 16 at the seventh annual St. George Art Show Opening Reception at the IOOF Hall from 5 to 8 p.m. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., a 50s and 60s street dance with the live band Three Button Deluxe and an Antique Auto Rally will meet at the elementary school parking lot. Others can enjoy a sunset cruise on the Laura B, which departs the Monhegan Boat Dock at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, July 17 will begin early with the Trekkers Pancake Breakfast & Yard Sale Extraordinaire. Those wishing to run off their pancakes can do the half mile run for kids at 8:25 a.m. or the Marshall Point 5K Lighthouse Loop at Drift Inn Beach.

Starting at 9 a.m., enjoy the Jackson Memorial Library Book Fair, which includes not only new and used books for adults and children but plants, baked goods, raffle items, a Kids’ Korner, treasures and a silent art auction. It will be held rain or shine. The raffle drawing of art and an array of excellent business and gift donations will be drawn at noon. The silent art auction will end at 2 p.m.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Main Street. Traditionally there’s been at least one float that triggers smiles from the spectators. After watching the parade, children can enjoy the Dunk Tank Challenge and other children’s activities sponsored by Harmony Baptist Church and the Herring Gut Marine Tank. The annual St. George Volunteer Firefighters & Ambulance Association Lobster Dinner will begin serving at 11 a.m. and go until 7 p.m. There will be a sunset cruise at 6:30 p.m. aboard the Laura B.

The Old Timers’ Baseball Game will be played Sunday, July 18 at 1 p.m. at the St. George Ball Field.
