New Era Gallery, 60 Main St., will present a midsummer group show featuring work by Peter Codella, Pam Johnson, Laurel MacDuffie and Jeannie Mooney. The show will open Saturday, July 17 with a reception from 4 to 7 p.m. including an artist talk at 4:30 p.m.

Sculptor Codella combines carved limestone with found stones and other natural objects to create work that is both figurative and architectural. The play of light and its effect on color is central to Johnson’s landscape oil paintings. MacDuffie’s stoneware boxes with hand carved wooden lids, drawers and doors contain references to the natural world as well as human occupation of the landscape. Fiber artist Mooney hand-rubs dirt, beeswax, charcoal and rust into cloth to create images that evoke the passage of time and the fleeting beauty of nature.

The show will run through Aug. 4. Summer gallery hours are Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays. For more information, call 863-9351 or visit neweragallery.com.
