Artist Anne Heywood will host two fun and educational mid-summer art events at her Artwork by A. Heywood Barn, 808 North Nobleboro Road.

On Saturday, July 17 from 10 a.m. to noon, Heywood is offering a free pastel painting demonstration of a Maine landscape scene. Ongoing explanations will accompany this step-by-step demonstration, which will be followed by a question and answer period with light refreshments.

The sixth annual Heywood Artist Retreat, an enjoyable week of art-related learning, pastel painting and camaraderie, will be held July 26 through 30. For all levels of students, the Artist Retreat is limited to eight participant. Both studio and plein air painting offered, and attention is given to each participant’s needs.

Artist, author and art instructor Heywood has given pastel demonstrations for national organizations including the Salmagundi Club in New York City. Her landscape paintings are noted for their emotional content, reflecting her life spent in New England and Italy. Heywood’s award-winning work has been featured in national and international publications, and it is in collections in the United States, the Netherlands, Italy and Israel. She is represented by the Wilson & Heywood Gallery in Plymouth, Mass.; and the Artwork by A. Heywood Gallery in Waldoboro.
